Moderate Stretch, but No elastic in waistband so waist band stretch has less stretch potential than the body of the pants.  If your midsection is a problem area for you keep this in mind and size accordingly. Shorts only have a slight amount of stretch in the body so kea wouldn't really suggest sizing down, she feels they're a bit snug in the waist

Don't exceed any of models measurements in size medium or they may not close properly

LOTS of stretch but has a shorter inseam 
Kea was able to size down to the small but sized up to see if she could get a more relaxed oversized fit but didn't really achieve that goal

Suggested to size up in this piece model has a smaller waist and could hardly close the medium would have sized up to large but only had medium on hand to shoot If your midsection is a problem area for you keep this in mind and size up accordingly possibly once or twice to be on the safe side.  Medium waist band approx. a 29" only allow 1.5-2" increase per size up

also model 5'3 and noticed the medium only about 29" inseam crotch to hem
