I had to size up to the medium as although the fabric does have some stretch the cut and the re-make and gathering causes it run smaller in the waist area. The top is suppose to be fitted and I felt it was in the waist hip area but I feel the medium was a little looser at the very top and I had to keep pulling up... I feel if I sized down to the small the top would have been more fitted but the waist would have been even more snug. if you're top heavy keep this in mind...I wouldn't suggest purchase this top if your mid-section is your problem area as mine isn't and it was still very snug on me in that area in the medium.
